How to break goo piles in Deep Dish Dungeon

Checked 2026-10-16. Steam build 25955406. Patch 1.0.47.0.

Clay was the search I expected to answer with a recipe. The file notes say there is no recipe. Goo is the source, and goo only cares about the pickaxe. I would stop hitting a pile with the hammer after the first dull swing and go find the pickaxe instead of grinding the wrong tool.

Pickaxe, then the pile

NPC Tips’ clay page for build 25955406 says a goo pile is several blocks. Each block you knock off can spit out one item, most often clay. Weapons, the hammer, and fire do not damage it. Yellow goo on a sewer wall is the same family: TechRaptor says the pickaxe opens a door behind it, and a Reddit note says yellow goo can also drop an iron rod.

The pickaxe has no crafting recipe. You find it in the dungeon. That is why clay, the oven, the smelter, and the statue mold all wait on one found tool.

Drop rates are not published

NPC Tips is explicit that the file weights are relative, not a percentage. I am not printing a fake drop table. If you need clay for the 16-clay statue mold, keep clearing piles and the few respawning nodes rather than looking for a chest.

Questions

Can I cook the goo or burn it?

No. Fire does not break goo piles in the build 25955406 notes. Use the pickaxe.
